Here is a scary idea, through Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com:”You don’t get any better than Rick Carlisle offense, however, Carlisle’s offense got better this offseason.”
Drink this you in.
Last year, Carlisle’s Mavs tied for second in the league with an offensive rating of 109, decimal points behind the NBA-best Los Angeles Clippers, according to NBA.com. While the loss of genius sniper and continuous facilitator Jose Calderon will sting, Dallas brought in Jameer Nelson to soften the blow. And a few possessions can be absorbed by Monta Ellis as well, which will not be a bad thing for the Mavs’ assault.
The increase comes from Chandler Parsons, who’ll slot in small forward to absorb nearly all of the wing minutes Shawn Marion and Vince Carter. Tyson Chandler mans the middle of everything should be a better defense.
What Dallas has is fragile. It’s dependent upon the ongoing and health potency of Dirk Nowitzki, about whom an elite offense can still be built. Nowitzki is, himself, although that is a remarkable thing to say about a player.
As long as he is ready to stand erect, he’ll be a defense-shredder in the high place. And the rest of the Mavs will play him off as on the strings are pulled by Carlisle from the seat.
Doubt this set of vets in your own risk.
