Academic Mentors & Tutoring
The College’s Academic Mentoring Policy ensures that all students are assigned an Academic Mentor during orientation week. Academic Mentors are members of the academic staff who provide guidance on academic progress, assessments, examinations, skills development, and overall adjustment to higher education. Mentors act as the first point of contact for students and meet with their mentees regularly through individual or group sessions.
In addition, the College offers structured tutoring hours, during which tutors are available to provide academic support outside scheduled classes. Tutoring sessions focus on clarifying course material, supporting assignments, and developing effective study strategies. Tutoring schedules are given in class at the start of every semester, and both on-campus and online tutoring options are available. Supplementary learning resources, including online materials and additional readings, further support student academic success.
During tutoring hours, students can:
- Ask questions and clarify difficult topics
- Review lecture material and coursework
- Receive help with assignments
- Improve study and exam-preparation skills
Student Teaching Assistants (TAs) also contribute to the learning environment by supporting academic staff during tutorials, workshops, laboratories, and practical sessions. Under lecturer supervision, TAs assist with learning activities, classroom organisation, and student engagement, enhancing the overall student experience while developing their own academic and professional skills.
Through these combined support mechanisms, the College aims to enhance academic understanding, improve student performance, and promote effective learning practices.
